# Make your first Predict API request

> Make your first unauthenticated Predict REST request, filter active events, follow cursor pagination, and discover account, outcome, and realtime APIs.

The Predict public API is read-only and does not require authentication. Most reads use `GET`; the order queue endpoint uses `POST` only to accept a batch of order IDs. You can start exploring events with any HTTP client.

## Request active events

Send a `GET` request to browse active events from the staging API:

```bash
curl --get "https://api.staging.trypredict.com/v1/events" \
  --data-urlencode "status=active" \
  --data-urlencode "limit=20"
```

Use the optional hierarchy filters (`topic`, `category`, and `series`) to narrow the catalog.

## Paginate through results

Collection responses include an opaque `next_cursor` when another page is available. Pass that value as `cursor` in the next request:

```bash
curl --get "https://api.staging.trypredict.com/v1/events" \
  --data-urlencode "status=active" \
  --data-urlencode "limit=20" \
  --data-urlencode "cursor=YOUR_CURSOR"
```

## Explore the complete API

Open the [Events API reference](/api-reference/event/list-events) for every filter and response field. The same reference now includes account profiles, positions, orders, fills, activity, performance charts, outcome market data, and queue positions. Use the [realtime API guide](/guides/guides/realtime) when you are ready to subscribe to matching live snapshots and updates.
